The Buckeye is supposed to be a very common butterfly, but this is the first one I've ever seen.  I saw it while walking along the power lines near the Rutgers Display Gardens.  It kept landing on the trail, but would vamoose every time I got near it.  Good thing for me he liked that Coke can, because that is the only unobstructed picture I could get of it.  I've read that males will wait on bare ground waiting for passing females to mate with.  Judging from its behavior, this one is probably a male.  I saw another one (or perhaps the same one) a few weeks after I saw this one.
