The Tiger Swallowtail is the most common swallowtail in central New Jersey. In past years, there would usually be one or two in the garden most days. Having four or more in the garden wasn't uncommon, with the record being seven. Seeing two in the garden at the same time is unusual these days. The one pictured at top left is a male, the one below it is a female. There is also a black-form female, but I have only spotted it once. |
