Silene armeria - Catchfly

Silene armeria - Catchfly

Catchfly begins blooming in very late spring, and blooms until the end of July.  They will bloom much earlier if the seeds are sown in the fall.  They grow 1½'-2' tall in my garden, and will re-seed themselves.  They are best grown among taller plants that will hide their foliage after they have finished flowering.  Butterflies love Catchfly.

After growing this for about twelve years, I got my first white one.  I didn't know it came in white, and I only found one mention of this on the internet.  I really don't know how rare this may be.  I collected seeds from my white plant, and started six white plants indoors.  I planted them near each other in the garden, and planted the rest of my white catchfly seeds in the same area.  Silene armeria - Catchfly I will collect the seeds from these plants and hopefully have more white plants in the coming years.
