Gaillardia x grandiflora - Blanket Flower

Gaillardia x grandiflora - Blanket Flower

Blanket Flower produces more flowers than any other plant in my garden.  Each individual flower blooms for only a short time.  It begins blooming in mid-June, and continues into December.  Its wiry stems grow 2¼'-2¾' tall in my garden.  Blanket Flowers naturally have a combination of red and yellow flowers.  Gaillardia x grandiflora - Blanket Flower Mine were started from seeds of a variety called "Burgundy," and only have a bit of yellow in the flowers.  It is very easy to grow from seed, and you may see a butterfly on it from time to time.  The only problem I've had with this plant is that sometimes a large stem will break off from the crown.  Mine have suffered from winter kill the last two winters in a row, and I only have one plant left.
