Rudbeckia fulgida - Black-eyed Susan

Rudbeckia fulgida - Black-eyed Susan "Goldsturm"

The "Goldsturm" variety of Black-eyed Susan grows about 2½' tall in my garden.  They bloom for about six weeks beginning in mid-July.  They spread rapidly, but not invasively.  Touted as a drought-resistant plant, Black-eyed Susans wilt at the first sign of hot weather.  This plant attracts a few species of butterfly.  However, in my first twelve years of growing it, I've only seen two butterflies on it.  In the past two years there have been many Wild Indigo Duskywings, Spring Azures and Red-banded Hairstreaks on it.
